SEXY, sultry, seductive. These are the words that easily come to mind when describing singers Geneva Cruz, Rachel Alejandro, and Vina Morales. They are the temptresses of the concert stage. The men in the audience drool, the women gaze in envy at their well-sculpted bodies, curves in the right places, and not an ounce of unwanted fat.
On Feb. 10, 11, and 13, the three singers will ignite the Music Museum with fiery ballads of love, dance tunes, and RnB grooves, all about getting the right guy for Valentine.
Yes, Geneva (of Smoky Mountain in her prepubescent years), Rachel (daughter of coed heartbreaker Hajji Alejandro), and Vina Morales (Viva Film’s gem of a child star in the ’80s) are all grown up women now and they have the experience to tell , rather sing, what love is all about.
The show is called How To Get The Guy!, and it’s dedicated to all women, whether single, married or unmarried, or coupled but not married. Men, though, can pick up a tip or two from these three singing love machines.
Bi-continental singer Rachel has been shuttling between North America and Asia to fulfill engagements in Manila and cities across the U.S. She has based herself in New York City and has remained single, though, not necessarily lonely and alone for most part of the year.
Geneva, meanwhile, has been living for seven years now with KC Montero, an American who earns his keep in here as a rap artist and a VJ for MTV, and Heaven, her son by former husband, Paco Arespacochaga. The couple has not discussed the idea of formalizing their seven-year old relationship in a marriage. “I don’t want to talk about marriage yet,” Geneva would dismiss any writer attempting to extract a confession from her.
Vina has always been very quiet about her romantic dalliances, whether with a high profile politico or some showbiz hunk. She’d rather talk about her accomplishments as a singer, actress, and businesswoman (she owns and operates a chain of beauty salons under the name Ystilo). At the moment, she says she has no serious involvement, “but I’m dating someone.” The physical fitness buff of a singer met someone from Down Under and they have since been going out to dinner or night out. They guy is based in Australia, and so their romantic interlude is never continuous. “But we are in touch,” she would readily admit when pressed about the affair.
First love never dies
Geneva says that’s not true for her. “I no longer feel anything for Paco,” she says. “Although we have become good friends, my heart has completely forgotten him.” Even her son, she says, is closer to KC than to his biological father. “It’s because, Heaven was only three years old when Paco and I separated. He practically grew up (he’s now 10 years old) with KC as his father, and KC really loves Heaven like his own son,” the singer insists.
For Rachel and Vina, first love may have died but both admit that they are still thrilled when they find themselves in the same space as the men that had their hearts skipping a beat for sometime.
“I will not deny that when Robin (Padilla) is around, I still feel kilig,” Vina says. “However, it’s not the kind of feeling that has hope of us getting together again. No, it’s something that just makes me feel glad.”
In Rachel’s case, she can’t really totally forget her first love. And every time she hears about him or see him accidentally, it makes her cry. “It’s not tears of regret,” she would clarify immediately. “It’s just I’m a bit sentimental.”
Both Vina and Rachel have been able to move on after the break up with the guys they consider their first love. Rachel says that when a man marries a woman, it’s not so much about love. And Vina agrees. “It’s about who is there when the man decides he is ready to settle down, and whether that woman he is with at the moment is likewise ready to plunge into marriage.”
Loveless on Valentine
Vina has been able to keep her sanity even if she always finds herself loveless on Valentine’s Day. “I don’t know but my relationships have always ended just before Valentine. And if ever there was reconciliation, it would happen weeks or immediately after Valentine.”
Not this time, though, as her Aussie boyfriend is just a phone call or e-mail away. She’s not saying whether he’ll be flying to Manila in time for her show.
Rachel has no particular plans on Valentine’s Day. But she says there’s always that possibility of going out on a date. She has never been without a suitor, even if in times she would declare a moratorium on romance. “I am dating, that’s without a doubt. But I have no one in particular I can call my Valentine.”
Geneva says it’s never a problem for her, because there’s KC and Heaven. “We will definitely spend Valentine together,’ she says.
Three women and a show
For three nights, Geneva, Rachel, and Vina promise to give all their best to everyone who would come to Music Museum for their show How To Get The Guy! “Although we share the same passion for performance,” Geneva acknowledges, “we’re very different from each other. That’s make makes the show interesting. It’s a high energy show—look at us —we’re all buffed, and we are going to make sure you go home really satisfied.”
The show is from a concept by Floy Quintos who will direct it from his own script. Goercel will provide the choreography to the girls’ dance numbers and Mark Lopez will make sure the music is right.
Joining the sexy ladies are three gentlemen—hunk and model Derek Ramsey (Feb. 10), model-turned-actor Luis Alandy (Feb. 11) and Prince of RnB Jay-R (Feb. 13). Each night will have a different concept to fit the male guest performance. So, if you want to know what the three singers will do with Derek, or Luis, or Jay-R, better buy yourselves a ticket (call GR Creative Exchange at 722-8847 or 722-4757) for each of the three nights.
Showtime is 9 p.m.
